What If is a performance about how we do not live differently; about how time measures out the rhythm of life; about how instability and hyperproductivity dictate the rhythm of work, and how resistance often frames the rhythm of feeling. What If is a solo dance and a solo about a dancer. A solo dance about the exposure and vulnerability of a body. It is about the insecure, unstable and vulnerable situation the body of a dancer is pushed into when on stage, at work and in life, thereby further investigating the intersection of body, gender and society as well as critically addressing the production conditions of contemporary dance and art in general – the subjects of interest characteristic of Maja Delak’s work. Being torn between the stage and real life generates the eternal question of an artist at work and self-questioning of an individual determined by both the decisions they make as well as those they don’t.
