The dance performance Awaiting Resonance by Kaja Lorenci and Ivan Mijačević is somewhat of a choreographic manifestation of communication noise focused in particular on dance as a form of communication. In an ironic and humorous way, the artists observe the relation between verbal and dance language as two forms of communication that are, for each other, some sort of an emergency exit or substitute for failure. At the same time, Awaiting Resonance is somewhat of a trap in which an event in the form of a dance might get caught. The dancers say they are trying to “create a perfect moment by waiting and listening, by echoing (in the other), by resonating (in the other)” in order to discover “the emergence of dance”. They do this with such an amount of discreet humour that their glorification of the dance ideal as something extra-linguistic, semi-divine, functions as an ironic commentary on the discourse of modern dance autopoetics.
