ON A THIN LINE OF MYCELIUM CONNECTEDNESS

In the performance, author Kaja Lorenci multiplies the form of a duo with various dance tasks and configurations which through fluid choreographic formations through incessant tuning of dancers create a sensation of unique beyond-stage symbiosis. The choreographic procedures are committed mainly to physical processes of communication, thereby creating filigree, an almost mycelium-like connectedness of performers including the sound landscape of the performance. If on one hand the “duos may be read as points of encounter, trust, uncertainty, (self)loss or burden,ˮ in  the words of Rok Vevar, the author moves on the boundary where choreography could step into the field of different narrations but nonetheless consistently remains concerned with choreographic problems. It is a procedure of a subtle de-theatralisation in the sense of constant renouncing of the possibility of dramatic narrative on one hand and aestheticised movement on the other.

Kaja Lorenci is a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. In 2006 she graduated from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD). After finishing her studies, she worked as a dancer with different authors: Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik, Mateja Bučar, Madeleine Karlsson and Alexander Stratimirović, Rosana Hribar and Gregor Luštek, Carmina Slovenica (Karmina Šilec). In her performance Awaiting Resonance, created in collaboration with Ivan Mijačević (2011), she began developing a unique method of creative work and approach to movement. The performance selected for the 2013 Gibanica Festival was later successfully presented at the Croatian dance platform. For several years she has been teaching contemporary dance technique at the SVŠGL secondary level education programme in contemporary dance. She’s currently preparing an ‘Art of Movement’ MA thesis at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana.
