EDUCATION IN THE FIELD OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE:
POTENTIALS AND URGENT MEASURES

Currently, the education vertical in the field of contemporary dance in Slovenia is partially established; it has been established with many education possibilities for primary school pupils, with Secondary Preschool Education and Gimnazija Ljubljana (Contemporary Dance module), and with the private institute Dance Academy – Alma Mater Europaea and Masters programme at AGRFT (Art of Movement module) at the higher education level. However, in the case of Dance Academy, it is a private institute with a tuition fee, while a publicly supported contemporary dance study programme as part of a public institute remains non‑existent. For this reason, and due to better working conditions, a large number of young people are leaving to study abroad, and in many instances staying there. The aim of the roundtable discussion is to reflect on the potentials of comprehensive contemporary dance education in the region, on the relevant experiences abroad, and on the possibilities of urgent action, especially regarding the working conditions at the higher education level.

Participants: dr. Svebor Sečak (Dance Academy – AMEU, Ljubljana), Dorota Sosnowska (University of Warsaw, Poland), Maja Delak (Secondary Preschool Education and Gimnazija Ljubljana and Emanat, Slovenia), Nina Meško (Public Fund for Cultural Activities), Nataša Bucik ( Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Directorate for Creativity)
