May 6–10, Cankarjev dom
For some time, we have been witnessing the erosion of the critical and discursive space, which in recent years has led to a significant decrease in the number of writers, theorists and other professionals of contemporary dance. We have nevertheless recently noticed an increased interest in the practice of writing and education in the field of criticism, but writers have very limited opportunities outside the official academic system for a systematic in-depth continuation of their education that would professionally support them on their way to professionalization.
With Maska we invite you to a multi-day international education for critics, which is aimed at an in-depth upgrade of viewing performances and writing, focusing on topics, methodologies, problems, contextualization and the history of contemporary dance.
The workshop will be led by Bojana Cvejić, a renowned international theorist and dramaturg in the field of contemporary dance, while some theorists, editors and writers will prepare shorter interventions. The workshop includes viewing performances of the Biennial, so the education consists of a full day program. The exact schedule will be provided to the admitted participants after confirmation.
The workshop is aimed at individuals who do not enter the discursive field without experience, but who already have critical and theoretical experiences behind them in the context of various collaborations.
For residents from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo*, Greece, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria, we offer special support that includes travel expenses and accommodation. The support scheme is implemented within the European project Moving Balkans, as part of its Exchange program.
Participation is limited, so registration to info@maska.si by February 20 2025 is mandatory. The application should include a CV, at least one author’s text (article, review, critique, theoretical text) and a motivation letter. Selected participants will be notified by March 3, 2025.
