Jaka Lah belongs among those theatre actors who keep their acquired academic knowledge at a distance and cannot be satisfied with only one theatre territory (a particular institution, aesthetics, genre, production model etc.). Therefore, he has so far been fascinated, in addition to acting as part of the Ljubljana City Theatre (MGL) ensemble, by some dance paradigms (butō) and the art of performance. Lah took part in several projects from the series Via Negativa and Via Nova, developed by a performers’ collective under the direction of Bojan Jablanovec, which monitor the foundations of art performance in public through their engagement in methodological negation and revaluation.
Pure performance triggers doubt about the form of artistic performance as a means of conveying artistic information, thus deconstructing activity motors of the basic communication scheme on some fundamental level. He is interested in what goes on between “what is thought, said and understood” and the changes that take place within that scope between the artist and the viewer.
